24 Aug Alex Connor Selected for Irish Universities Sevens Squad
The proud news continues to roll in for Navan RFC! Huge congratulations to Senior Women’s player Alex Connor, who has officially been named in the Irish Universities Women’s Sevens squad for the upcoming FISU World University Championship in Stellenbosch, South Africa!
The prestigious tournament will take place from 4th–6th September 2026, bringing together top student-athlete talent from across the globe.
Alex’s international Sevens call-up caps off an extraordinary eight months of rapid development and elite representation across club, provincial, and national levels throughout 2026:
- January — Celtic Challenge Glory with the Wolfhounds: Kickstarted the year by making her debut for the Wolfhounds, earning a starting spot at scrum-half in the final to seal a successful championship campaign.
- Spring — Ireland U21 Six Nations Honours: Represented the Ireland Women’s U21 team during the inaugural U21 Women’s Six Nations Series.
- August — Senior Leinster Debut: Stepped up seamlessly into senior provincial rugby during the Vodafone Women’s Interprovincial Championship, earning her first senior cap and starting berth against Connacht at Energia Park.
- September — World University Championship Bound: Selected as part of Ireland’s premier university Sevens squad to compete against the world’s best in South Africa.
The Irish Universities Sevens squad brings together the most promising third-level rugby talent in the country. Alex and her teammates will travel to Stellenbosch aiming to make a major impact on the international stage while showcasing the strength and depth of Irish women’s university rugby.
