Navan RFC Under-13 Boys produced a spirited and courageous performance but ultimately fell to a strong Boyne side in their North-East Cup semi-final clash at Shamrock Lodge, Drogheda.
Played in bright sunshine on the impressive new 4G surface, Captain James Burns proudly led Navan onto the field, setting the tone for a committed team display. Navan made an excellent start and held a deserved 19–14 lead at half-time, thanks to some clinical attacking play.
Shay Smyth crossed for a well-earned try, while Casey Reynolds continued his outstanding season with two tries, including a brilliantly taken effort from a clever kick-and-chase. The impact of the “Bomb Squad” off the bench added fresh energy as Navan looked to maintain momentum.
However, Boyne responded strongly in the second half, capitalising on opportunities to pull away on the scoreboard. Despite the result, Navan showed immense resilience, with determined tackling and trademark defensive intensity right through to the final whistle.
Shay Smyth was named Player of the Match for his all-round contribution.
The game marked the end of a fantastic season for the squad, finishing with 18 matches played, 12 wins and 6 second-place finishes. A number of individual awards were also presented, highlighting the talent and commitment within the group.
A huge thank you to the players, coaches, and parents for their dedication throughout the season. The boys now take a well-earned break before returning in September.
