25 Mar Cup Glory: St Mary’s Success has a Navan Connection
Following St Mary’s College securing their first Leinster Rugby Boys Schools Senior Cup title since 2002 in a thrilling replay victory at Energia Park on Monday, it’s a moment that also brings back fond memories for Navan RFC.
Back in January 2024, Navan’s Under 16 Boys welcomed the St Mary’s College Junior Cup team to Balreask Old for a friendly. That St Mary’s side would go on to win the Leinster Rugby Boys Schools Junior Cup later that year, crediting their trip to Navan as a key catalyst in launching their successful campaign.
Fast forward to this week, and many of that same group of players have now etched their names into school rugby history, overcoming Blackrock College 25–22 to lift the prestigious Senior Cup.
It’s a great reminder of the role clubs like Navan RFC play in supporting and developing young talent across the rugby community, with connections and shared experiences helping shape future success stories.
