New Ross 45 Navan 15, New Ross RFC

Navan U18 Girls made the long journey to New Ross on Saturday for their opening fixture in Division 1, producing a spirited performance against strong opposition.

Navan started brightly, showing good attacking intent and enjoying plenty of early possession. However, New Ross proved clinical on turnover ball, capitalising to score the opening two tries of the contest.

Navan responded well, with Maeve Sheehy finishing a cleverly executed lineout move inside the New Ross 22 to put Navan on the scoreboard. Despite continued effort from the visitors, New Ross dominated the middle period of the game, adding a further couple of tries to extend their lead.

After the break, Navan showed great resilience and attacking flair. Sheehy crossed for her second try in the left corner, following an excellent chip through from Maggie Kerin. Navan remained competitive and were rewarded again when AnnaMae Tracey finished off a well-worked team move in the right corner.

Despite the final scoreline, there were many positives to take from the performance, particularly the team’s work rate and attacking creativity. Mia Kavanagh was deservedly named Navan Player of the Match for her outstanding contribution.
