Navan Women’s 1st XV were narrowly defeated by MU Barnhall in a top-of-the-table Division 1 clash in Parsonstown on Sunday afternoon.
In a highly anticipated encounter, Navan travelled to face the defending league champions and newly crowned All-Ireland Junior Cup winners, knowing the significance of the fixture in the title race. Barnhall ultimately outscored the visitors by five tries to three, moving three points clear at the summit with a game in hand.
The contest was played at a high intensity throughout, with both sides showing why they have set the pace in Division 1 this season. Navan remained competitive across the 80 minutes and created scoring opportunities, but Barnhall proved clinical in key moments to edge the encounter.
Despite the result, there were strong individual performances across the pitch. Aoife Ryan, named Navan RFC Player of the Match (sponsored by The Central), delivered an outstanding display, bringing energy, physicality and leadership to the contest.
Navan will regroup quickly as they continue their Division 1 campaign, with plenty still to play for in the weeks ahead.
