Men’s 3rd XV Claim 3rd at Annual Beachy Cup

Navan RFC’s Men’s 3rd XV brought home early-season silverware on Sunday, 6th September, claiming the Lorcan Kirk Shield after securing a third-place finish at the annual Leinster North-East Beachy Cup hosted by Balbriggan RFC!

Four teams contested this year’s tournament: hosts Balbriggan RFC, Boyne RFC, Swords RFC, and Navan RFC.

Navan started the afternoon in fantastic form, earning a hard-fought 10-8 victory over Swords RFC in their opening match. The squad followed that up with two gritty, resolute defensive performances, grinding out consecutive 0-0 draws against both Boyne RFC and hosts Balbriggan RFC to finish the tournament undefeated!

Balbriggan RFC President Kevin Colman presented the Lorcan Kirk Shield to Navan following the conclusion of the matches.

As always, the Beachy Cup provided a wonderful occasion for the North-East rugby community to come together in memory of former Boyne RFC player John ‘Beachy’ McCreanor, who passed away in 2012 and also held deep playing ties with Ardee RFC and the former Delvin RFC.

Special presentations were made by Beachy’s family following the games: his partner Tanya presented the Beachy Cup to tournament winners Balbriggan RFC, while his daughters Kasey and Iona presented the Bowl to second-place Boyne RFC.

The day also marked a massive personal milestone for Navan RFC’s own Aoife White! At just 18 years of age, Aoife took charge of her very first adult men’s match as a match official during the tournament.

A huge well done to Aoife on a fantastic performance, she clearly has a bright and exciting future ahead of her in refereeing!

A big thank you to hosts Balbriggan RFC, all match officials, organizers, and travelling supporters who made the day such a great success.
