Sunday 8th March | The Showgrounds, Athy.
Navan Scorers:
Tries: Thomas Clarke x2
(Half-Time: Athy 24 Navan 0)
Navan RFC Men’s J1/2nd XV saw their involvement in this year’s Bank of Ireland Leinster Provincial Towns Cup come to an end on Sunday following a 57–10 defeat away to defending champions Athy at The Showgrounds.
Athy made a powerful start to the contest, dominating the opening twenty minutes and quickly establishing control of the game. Their early pressure translated into points on the board and by half-time the home side had built a 24–0 advantage.
Competing against a strong Leinster League Division 1A outfit, Navan found it difficult to contain Athy’s momentum as the hosts continued to apply pressure throughout the match.
Despite the early setback, Navan continued to compete and were rewarded with two tries from Thomas Clarke, who crossed twice to put Navan on the scoreboard.
However, Athy proved clinical in attack and ultimately ran in eight tries over the course of the game to secure progression in the competition.
Navan will now turn their attention to the Leinster Provincial Towns Plate, with the draw for that competition expected to be confirmed in the coming week.
