Navan RFC Men’s Under 20s were narrowly defeated 22–17 by Seapoint in their latest Leinster JP Fanagan Cup Super Six fixture at Balreask Old on Sunday.
Played in cold and windy conditions, the contest became even more difficult for both sides when freezing rain arrived at half-time, making handling and territory increasingly challenging during the second period.
Despite the difficult conditions, Navan remained competitive throughout and crossed for three tries in an evenly contested encounter.
Simon Dizon, who delivered a strong all-round performance both in attack and defence for Navan as well as scoring a try! was named Navan RFC Player of the Match.
Other tries from Lachlan Maguire and Jack Smith kept Navan firmly in the contest, while Ciall Flynn added a conversion to keep the scoreboard ticking for the home side.
However, Seapoint managed to edge ahead in the closing stages to secure the victory in what proved to be a tight and physical contest from start to finish.
Preceding kick-off, both teams observed a minute’s silence in tribute to Luke Kenny, son of former Navan RFC youths coach Pat Kenny, who sadly passed away suddenly last week, Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.
