10 Aug Molly Egan Shines for Irish Tag at the British & Irish Cup
Huge congratulations to Navan RFC Women’s player Molly Egan, who was in action for the Ireland Under-22 Mixed Tag Rugby squad at the 2026 British & Irish Cup!
The tournament took place at UCD over the recent August Bank Holiday weekend, and it is a super achievement for Molly to represent her country on the international stage.
Playing their British counterparts in a best-of-three series, the Irish Mixed Under-22 team emerged victorious with a fantastic 2-1 series win.
The squad set the tone by beating Great Britain 12-5 in the opening game. While Great Britain managed to edge out a solitary win in a tight second match (10-11), Ireland bounced back to secure the series with a thrilling 10-9 victory in the third and final game.
While it was a phenomenal weekend for Molly and the Mixed U22 squad, the broader tournament was incredibly competitive. Ireland secured brilliant category wins in the Mixed Open, Mixed Under-22’s, Men’s Under-40’s, and Women’s Under-27’s.
Unfortunately, these category victories were just short of an overall series win, with Great Britain taking the overall tournament title in a narrow 5-4 overall victory.
