02 Mar Navan Blue Dragons Shine at Carlow Festival
Navan Blue Dragons made their first visit to Carlow Bees for the latest in the series of Leinster Disability Tag Rugby festivals and it proved to be a fantastic day of rugby, teamwork and friendship.
The Blue Dragons travelled with both junior and senior squads, with players combining with other clubs to ensure that everyone enjoyed maximum game time and involvement throughout the festival.
Junior Squad – New Friendships Formed
The Navan juniors teamed up with Roscrea, who were attending their very first festival. The players quickly built strong connections, showing excellent teamwork across five demanding matches in just two hours.
The combined Navan/Roscrea side faced:
- Energia (festival sponsors)
- Edenderry Sharks
- Cill Dara Foxes
- A combined Terenure Tigers / Naas Vipers team
- Hosts Carlow Bees
Despite the busy schedule, the players performed brilliantly, displaying great skill, resilience and enjoyment. Roscrea impressed hugely on their debut, and hopefully the friendships formed will continue at future festivals.
Senior Squad – High Quality Competition
The senior Blue Dragons joined forces with old friends Cill Dara Foxes. Together, they took on some well-established sides including:
- DLSP Eagles
- St Mary’s All Stars
- Balbriggan Stingers
- Arklow Kites
Following the matches, the Cill Dara coach spoke highly of how quickly the players gelled and praised the standard of rugby shown against strong opposition.
Mascots & Memories
Both junior and senior players were delighted to meet the ever-popular Leo the Lion, who brought his usual energy and even joined in during matches to show off his skills! Not to be outdone, Navan’s own mascot Bluey was a big hit with players and supporters alike throughout the day.
Carlow Bees hosted a superbly organised festival, blessed with dry weather and even a little sunshine. Navan Blue Dragons are already looking forward to returning next year.
Next up for the Blue Dragons is the Terenure Tigers Festival in May, another date firmly marked in the calendar.
