Navan RFC Men’s 1st XV brought their Energia All-Ireland League Division 2B campaign to a close with a 54–5 defeat away to UL Bohemian at the University of Limerick on Saturday.
Trailing 26–0 at half-time, Navan faced a well-organised and clinical Bohs side who had already secured a place in the promotion/relegation play-off semi-finals and were targeting a home tie with victory.
Despite the challenging conditions and the quality of the opposition, Navan showed admirable resolve throughout. In a season that has proven to be a steep learning curve under head coach Ryan Roberts, the side featuring a number of young players continued to battle throughout, showing pride and determination against one of the division’s top teams.
UL Bohemian made a fast start, crossing early through Darren Ferrar before further tries from Killian Dineen and Darragh O’Gorman helped establish a commanding interval lead. The hosts maintained that momentum in the second half, adding further scores to pull clear.
Navan’s response came shortly after the restart, with Cormac Horan finishing well in the left corner for the visitors’ only try of the game, offering a positive moment in an otherwise difficult afternoon.
While the scoreline reflected UL Bohemian’s strength, Navan’s commitment never wavered, with the squad continuing to compete until the final whistle in testing weather conditions.
Michael Brady was named Navan RFC Player of the Match, sponsored by “The Central”, for his efforts in a demanding contest.
The result sees Navan finish ninth in the final Division 2B standings, concluding a campaign that, while challenging, has provided valuable experience for a developing squad.
Attention now turns to the restructuring of the All-Ireland League, which will see Division 2B split into North and South conferences (2BN and 2BS) for the 2026/27 season.
