08 May Navan RFC Kicks Off “Give It A Try” 2026
The future of girls’ rugby in Navan was on full display at Balreask Old this week as we hosted a spectacular Night One of the IRFU’s “Give It A Try” (GIAT) program.
Under a brilliant evening sun, a fantastic group of new players aged 8 to 15 took to the pitches to sample the game for the first time. The atmosphere was electric, filled with the sounds of learning, laughter, and new friendships being forged. It was also wonderful to see some of our current underage players on hand to mentor the newcomers, showcasing the supportive “club family” culture we pride ourselves on.
A Pathway to Success
Programs like GIAT are the lifeblood of Navan RFC. They provide the spark that ignites a lifelong love for the game and serve as the vital entry point for our competitive girls’ teams at U12, U14, U16, and U18.5 levels. Seeing so much raw talent and enthusiasm on the first night bodes exceptionally well for our youth structures in the seasons to come.
Learning from the Best
A massive “Thank You” to our coaching team for making the evening so impactful. Our new recruits had the unique opportunity to be inspired by six of our Adult Women’s players, including recently capped Ireland U21 International Alex Connor, who was on hand to share her skills and experience.
The sessions were expertly led by Adult Women’s coaches Andy Kiernan and Jackie Shiels, supported by underage coach Nour Khairy and CCRO Graham. Their expertise ensured that every girl, regardless of experience, felt confident and involved from the first whistle.
