Navan 35 ABS (Ardee, Boyne, Skerries) 0, Balreask Old, Navan.
Navan RFC’s Under-16 Girls made it two wins from two in the North-East League on Saturday, 12th September, putting on a breathtaking attacking display to record a comprehensive 35-0 home victory over ABS (Ardee-Boyne-Skerries).
Backed by loud applause from the sidelines at Balreask Old, Navan were clinical from the opening whistle, combining relentless defensive pressure with sharp backline execution.
Captain Lillyrose Babington led the side out for the first period, and Navan wasted no time setting the tempo. Abigail Kerin crossed for the opening try inside the first minute, converted by Eve Graham. Just three minutes later, Lucy McGrane sliced through for Navan’s second score, before Kerin added a stunning individual try on seven minutes, again converted in style by Graham.
Navan continued to pile on the pressure as Aoibheann Fletcher grabbed a dynamic first-half brace, touching down in the 15th and 26th minutes, with Graham’s third conversion giving Navan a commanding lead at the break.
With Aoibhe Cheevers taking over the captaincy duties for a confident second half, Navan maintained their ruthless edge. Six minutes after the restart, Jessica Doran reacted quickest to score a sharp, quick-thinking try, which Graham converted with ease. Two minutes later, Kerin crashed over for a hard-fought try to complete her hat-trick, followed by another flawless conversion from Graham.
Cheevers capped off an influential performance by driving over for a try of her own 21 minutes into the second half, before Kerin rounded off an exceptional afternoon by crossing for her fourth try two minutes later to seal a 35-point shutout victory.
While it was a complete team performance from start to finish, standout displays on the day came from Aoibhe Cheevers, Grace Shortt, Abigail Kerin, Michaela Spillane, Lucy McGrane, and Eve Graham, who enjoyed a stellar afternoon off the kicking tee.
