06 Apr Navan Well Represented in North-East Shane Horgan Cup
Navan RFC is proud to have had seven players represent the North East Under 16 squad in this year’s Shane Horgan Cup.
The North East panel brought together talented players from across the region, including clubs such as Ardee, Ashbourne, Athboy, Balbriggan, Boyne, Carlingford, Dundalk, Navan, North Meath, Ratoath and Skerries, highlighting the continued strength and depth of rugby in the area.
Navan was represented throughout the campaign by Jimmy Shorten (captain), Evan Lynch, Asanka Varney, Sean Masterson, Killian Fagan, Danny Farrell and Donnacha Ryan.
Across the series, the North East squad played an exciting and ambitious brand of rugby, combining strong forward play with well-structured and skilful attacking movements in the backline.
The campaign concluded on Wednesday, April 1st, with a dramatic final-day clash against the Metro region at Donnybrook. In a thrilling contest that swung back and forth, the result was ultimately decided by the final kick of the game, with Metro edging a narrow 22–20 victory.
One of the standout moments for the North East side was a superbly executed second try, showcasing a high-quality team move played with pace and precision, a score that underlined the attacking potential within the squad.
Perhaps most encouraging was the visible development of the group over the past 12 months, with clear improvements in cohesion, confidence and execution.
Navan RFC would like to acknowledge and thank the North East coaching and backroom team, including strength and conditioning staff, physios and nutritionists, for their dedication and commitment in supporting and developing this talented group of players.
