Navan RFC’s Under-13 Boys continued their impressive pre-season form on Sunday, 13th September 2026, delivering an energetic, nine-try performance to earn a comprehensive 51-7 victory over Mullingar RFC.
In a match defined by powerful carries, direct running, and relentless defensive pressure, the fixture offered the coaching team an excellent chance to rotate squad positions and test new combinations.
Navan set a blistering pace from the opening whistle. Oisín Greene set the tone early, crossing for a first-half brace built on a series of powerful forward carries close to the Mullingar line.
Mullingar capitalized on an interception inside the Navan 22-metre line to stay within touching distance, but Navan remained composed. Key defensive plays including a heavy tackle from Malachy Byrne, direct carries into the 22 from Johan Versfeld, and a crucial jackal penalty turn-over from Laurence McGahey kept Navan in control, holding a 10-7 lead at half-time.
Navan blew the game wide open in the second period, shifting into top gear and moving the ball wide; Frankie Feeney produced two sensational long-range tries, twice gathering around his own 10-metre line before sprinting down the left wing to finish under the posts.
Space opened up on the opposite wing for Rory Brennan, who sprinted clear to score in the right corner.
Following a line-breaking run up the left touchline by Dylan O’Connell, Cal Hennessy crossed for two tries as Navan hammered the home tryline.
Callum Keena and Michael McAteer rounded out the scoring with close-range finishes, with Odhran McMullan slotting an impressive conversion from out on the 15-metre line to cap off a 51-7 victory.
It was another highly encouraging squad outing, with standout displays on the day from Johan Versfeld, Malachy Byrne, Frankie Feeney, and Dylan O’Connell.
Huge congratulations to the players, coaches, and travelling parents on another brilliant morning of youth rugby!
