07 Jan St Pat’s Record Impressive Vinnie Murray Cup Win
Congratulations to the St Patrick’s Classical School, Navan Senior Rugby Team, who produced a superb performance to defeat CBC Monkstown by 39–33 in the opening round of the Leinster Bank of Ireland Vinnie Murray Cup, played yesterday at Castle Avenue, Clontarf.
St Patrick’s ran in five tries in an exciting, high-scoring contest against a well-established rugby school. CBC Monkstown are renowned for their strong rugby tradition, making this result a particularly significant achievement for the Navan school.
The victory sees St Pat’s progress to the Quarter-Finals, where they will face St Fintan’s High School. A win in that fixture would not only secure a place in the Vinnie Murray Cup Semi-Finals, but would also guarantee qualification as one of the four Vinnie Murray Cup representatives in the prestigious Leinster Bank of Ireland Senior Schools Cup proper. That qualification would potentially set up a Round of 16 clash with St Michael’s College.
Navan RFC were proudly represented throughout the match, with a number of players from the club’s Under-16, Under-17 and Under-18.5 boys squads involved in the St Patrick’s team.
The Quarter-Final against St Fintan’s High School is scheduled to take place at Energia Park, Donnybrook, on Wednesday, 14th January, with a 1.15pm kick-off.
Best of luck to all players and coaches as they continue their impressive Schools Cup campaign. Full recap of Vinnie Murray Cup 1st Round available at Leinster Rugby, click below to find out more.
