23 Jan Towns Cup XV in Commanding Performance
Leinster Metro Premier 2 Group B
Navan 36 Enniscorthy 19
Sunday 18th January | Balreask Old
Navan’s Men’s Towns Cup side (J1s) delivered a commanding all-round performance at Balreask Old on Sunday afternoon, overcoming Enniscorthy 36–19 in Leinster Metro Premier 2 Group B.
From the outset, Navan established control through a powerful and efficient scrum, which consistently provided a solid platform for the backs to attack with confidence. That dominance up front allowed Navan to dictate territory and tempo, stretching the Enniscorthy defence and creating space out wide for a series of well-taken tries.
The forward pack was led superbly by captain Andrew Beggy, whose leadership and physicality set the tone. He was ably supported by the tireless efforts of Max Shivmangal and James Duffy, with Navan’s forwards showing patience and precision as they worked through multiple phases to open up scoring opportunities.
In the backline, Jeaic Timmons at out-half marshalled play intelligently, linking effectively with scrum-half Woodley Nicholson, while Luke Dolan impressed on the wing with his pace and finishing ability. Their combined influence was reflected clearly on the scoreboard as Navan pulled away to secure a deserved 36–19 victory.
The result marked a strong return to competitive action for a youthful Navan side and provided ideal momentum ahead of this weekend’s challenge. Attention now turns to cup rugby, with Navan set to host Edenderry at Balreask Old in the first round of the Bank of Ireland Provincial Towns Cup.
