Navan U13 Boys faced a tough challenge away to Mullingar on Sunday in the Leinster Premier League, ultimately falling to a strong second-half performance from the hosts.
Navan made an excellent start to the game, taking an early lead through a well-worked try from Casey Reynolds, with Freddie Davis adding the conversion. Mullingar responded quickly, however, applying sustained pressure and finding their rhythm as the first half progressed.
Navan continued to show attacking intent, with Shay Smyth crossing for their second try of the day, again converted by Davis to keep the visitors firmly in the contest.
Captain Conor Lyons led the side with determination, making a positional switch from number 6 to full-back in the second half, showing great versatility and leadership throughout.
Despite a competitive opening period, Mullingar stepped up the intensity after the break, capitalising on possession and territory to pull away on the scoreboard and secure a 40–14 victory.
Aidan O’Connor was a standout performer for Navan, earning Player of the Match for an excellent display at scrum-half. His performance was a bright point on the day, and he will lead the side as captain in their next fixture against Monkstown.
Navan will look to regroup and build on the positives as they prepare for their upcoming challenge, with hopes high for a strong response.
