Under 13 Boys Soar to Win Over Skerries in League Opener

Leinster North-East U13 Boys League – Group B (Sunday 27th September)

Skerries 7 Navan 29, Holmpatrick, Skerries.

Navan RFC’s Under-13 Boys kicked off their Leinster North-East League Group B campaign in style on Sunday, 27th September, securing a dominant 29-7 victory over Skerries RFC at Holmpatrick.

Playing with immense confidence, ambition, and skill, the lads thrilled the travelling supporters with sharp offloading, support running, and expansive open-field rugby.

Led by captain Frankie Feeney, Navan took control of the contest early by moving the ball into space and keeping attacks alive with rapid passing.

Michael McAteer led the scoring effort with a sensational brace, while Malachy Byrne, Frankie Feeney, Iarlaith, and Casey Walsh each crossed the line. Walsh’s try came on the back of a powerful, line-breaking run by Dylan O’Connell.

The encounter featured a number of standout individual highlights that brought the Travelling Navy and Sky Blue support to their feet; Johan Versfeld produced one of the standout moments of the morning, snatching an interception and sprinting 50 metres down the pitch before being pulled down just five metres short of the line.

Connor Cheevers executed a brilliant offload to Malachy Byrne, who sliced through the defense and raced 55 metres to touch down under the posts.

Navan’s depth shone through in the closing quarter, with the impact players off the bench maintaining high energy levels and working tirelessly right up to the final whistle to restrict Skerries to a single score.

To ensure the entire squad gained valuable match experience, an additional 20-minute “third period” was played following the main game, allowing non-panelled players to take the pitch. The boys introduced in the final period kept the energy levels sky-high, working tirelessly until the final whistle.
