Navan RFC Under 14 Boys booked their place in the final of the Leinster Youth Boys U14 Premier Shield with a hard-fought 13–10 victory away to Athy RFC on Thursday evening.
In a tightly contested semi-final, both sides crossed for two tries apiece, but it was Navan’s accuracy from the tee that ultimately proved decisive, with a crucial penalty separating the teams at the final whistle.
The match was played at a high intensity throughout, with little to choose between the sides. Navan showed great composure under pressure, managing key moments effectively and defending resolutely to hold onto their narrow lead.
Athy pushed hard in the closing stages, but Navan’s discipline and determination ensured they saw out the game to secure a deserved win on the road.
The result sends Navan through to the Shield Final, where they will face Tullow RFC, with fixture details to be confirmed.
A fantastic achievement for the squad, who now have a chance to cap off their campaign with silverware.
