Navan RFC Under 16 Boys produced a strong all-round performance to secure a 35–10 victory over Ardee RFC in the semi-final of the Leinster Youth Boys Under 16 Plate, played at Boyne RFC on Saturday.
Navan crossed for five well-earned tries through Danny Farrell, Asanka Varney, Killian Fagan, Andrei Balan and Tom Moran, with Seán Masterson adding three conversions in a composed display from the tee.
Despite being held up over the line on four occasions, Navan showed excellent patience and resilience to keep applying pressure and turn dominance into scores.
Tom Moran delivered a Player of the Match performance on the wing, finishing off a superb team try while also making key defensive contributions as Ardee looked to attack out wide.
There were strong performances across the pitch, with Ethan Plunkett making an impressive return from injury in the centre, while Jonas Lipinskas was outstanding at openside flanker, producing a crucial block down that shifted momentum firmly in Navan’s favour.
At the base of the scrum, captain Jimmy Shorten led from number eight, setting the tone with his leadership and driving the team’s “Positive Energy and Game Winning Attitude” throughout.
A powerful impact from the bench helped Navan see out the game in control, rounding off a complete team performance.
The victory sees Navan progress to the Plate Final as their “Road to Donnybrook” continues, with the squad now looking forward to the next challenge.
