Under 16 Girls Impress with Strong Win Over Clontarf

Navan RFC Under 16 Girls produced an excellent performance at Balreask Old on Saturday, recording a well-deserved 28–5 victory over Clontarf in Division 1.

Navan made a flying start, racing into a 14–0 lead with early tries from Helena Zucchini and Abigail Kerin, both scores coming after strong phase play and effective clear-outs, with Lydia Trehy prominent in setting the platform.

Clontarf responded with a sustained period of pressure inside the Navan 22 and were rewarded with a try of their own. However, Navan finished the first half strongly, and just two minutes before the break Chloe Olwill showed great strength and footwork to break several tackles and cross the line, sending Navan into the interval leading 21–5.

The second half proved a tighter and more physical contest, with Navan spending extended periods in the Clontarf half and controlling territory. Persistent pressure eventually told in the 45th minute when Chloe Olwill struck again, finishing off another well-worked attack to extend Navan’s lead.

Helena Zucchini capped a fine all-round display with a perfect kicking performance, converting all of Navan’s tries to maintain the scoreboard momentum throughout the game.

A strong team effort, combining sharp attacking play with disciplined defence, ensured a deserved Division 1 victory for the girls.
