Navan RFC Under 18 Boys delivered a superb all-round performance to secure the North-East Under 18 Boys Plate title with a commanding 45–14 victory over Balbriggan RFC at Balreask Old on Saturday.
Running in seven tries, Navan combined clinical attacking play with strong defensive organisation to control proceedings from start to finish and deservedly lift the trophy.
The home side set the tone early, striking from a dominant scrum with Aidan Lynch finishing well in the corner. That opening score sparked a sustained period of pressure, with Navan dictating both territory and tempo.
Their attacking variety was evident throughout, with quick thinking and execution leading to further scores. A rapidly taken penalty and a perfectly weighted cross-kick from Lorcan Craik to Jack Shorten caught the defence off guard, while the forward pack imposed themselves with two powerful maul tries, finished by Daniel Robinson and Oshan Varney.
To their credit, Balbriggan responded with two well-worked tries, but Navan remained firmly in control. Jack Clarke added another score following a sharp attacking move, while Rihan Faherty capped off the performance with a powerful individual try. Lorcan Craik contributed four conversions, alongside one from Jack Clarke, to round off an impressive display.
It was a fitting end to the season for Navan, whose performance reflected their intensity, cohesion and quality across the pitch.
