Women’s 1st XV Impress in Pre-Season Win Over Ashbourne

Pre-Season Friendly – Friday 11th September
Navan 65 Ashbourne 5, Balreask Old, Navan.

Navan RFC Women’s 1st XV enjoyed an outstanding Friday night under the floodlights at Balreask Old, running in eleven tries in a comprehensive 65-5 pre-season friendly victory over fellow County Meath side, Ashbourne RFC.

Split into four 15-minute quarters, the fixture provided Head Coach Jackie Shiels with an ideal opportunity to test squad depth, rotate combinations, and give players valuable game time as preparations build toward the start of the Leinster Women’s League later this month.

Played in brilliant sportsmanship throughout, the match highlighted Navan’s growing cohesion and attacking firepower.

While the home pack laid a solid foundation with powerful, direct forward carries, it was the blistering speed and sharp distribution of the Navan backline that stole the show. Navan repeatedly breached the visitors’ defensive line with crisp passing and high-tempo support play, crossing the line eleven times across the four quarters to seal a convincing 60-point win.

With a strong performance under their belts, Jackie Shiels’ side will carry plenty of momentum into their final training sessions as they put the finishing touches on their pre-season campaign ahead of the Leinster Women’s League kickoff.
